This is the story of one of our lovely patients who came with an old failing bridge, a fractured back tooth, and a large, expanded sinus when the previous tooth in the middle was lost. Missing teeth always lead to bone loss, so replacing them with dental implants is crucial. The jawbone starts to deteriorate as soon as a tooth is lost. Replacing a failing bridge with dental implant crowns is an ideal solution, especially when using guided surgery.

CT provides a detailed 3-D image and helps to perform a “virtual surgery” before the surgical procedure is ever made. Dental bone grafting is required when the existing jawbone mass is insufficient for the effective placement of dental implants. We performed a sinus lift, and now you can notice the lack of darkness in the picture. The space was filled with transplanted bone material to restore bone width, height, and volume. This technique thickens and widens the jawbone and impressively increases the success rate of dental implants. The procedure is pain-free, and our patient had zero post-op sinus-related issues.
After five months of bone graft healing, we put implants in. Teeth were restored with screw-retained crowns, which is the best option because no cement was used. The adhesive may trigger chronic inflammation in tissues and limit removal options, while a screw-retained crown with no cement provides easy access to the screw. Smile improvement is always possible. The patient is happy with the results and ready to eat on his left side!
