Laser dentistry for gum disease treatment
One of the most effective ways to use lasers in dentistry is for treatment of gum disease. Traditional forms of gum disease treatment such as scaling and root planing can be uncomfortable for the patient.
Laser dentistry is revolutionary because it is much less invasive than alternative methods and has extremely positive outcomes. Laser treatment allows us to effectively eliminate any infection, and thus, reduce the dependency on antibiotics for treatment.
During laser gum therapy we remove diseased tissue and plaque while the healthy gum tissue remains untouched. In conjunction with the laser, an ultrasonic device is used to remove any plaque and tartar around the tooth root. The laser is then used one more time to address any remaining diseased tissue. After the procedure, the gum tissue will heal and grow back around the tooth. Since there is no cutting or sutures with laser gum therapy, healing is often much faster than alternative treatments.
